Charlie Sheen gets McLobster challenge on Twitter

Charlie Sheen was bombarded with Tweets Thursday urging the troubled star to post a photo of himself eating the new and elusive McLobster sandwich at at McDonalds. Why? That's anyone's guess. But given the erratic behavior and equally erratic photos posted by Sheen to his new Twitter account, Sheen eating a McLobster sandwich on Twitter would actually be one of the least strange stunts the actor has pulled of late.

* CHRISTINA AGUILERA HAS HER CHARLIE SHEEN MOMENT
Late Wednesday night, Charlie Sheen topped one million followers on Twitter, just as rumors sparked that it may, in fact, not really be Charlie Sheen releasing the majority of tweets. Despite the recent attention given to the publicity shake-up inside "team Sheen," it's believed that Charlie Sheen is planning to use Twitter to rehabilitate his image.
If so, Sheen may be working with publicity and marketing experts to craft his tweets as some have suggested.
"In all sincerity," Sheen tweeted late Wednesday, "thank you Twitter community for the warm reception & the followers that helped get me to 1M in 24 hours!!!"
* JON CRYER DENIES TWITTER COMMENTS ABOUT CHARLIE SHEEN
Some say that message strikes a tone of "outreach," "dignity" and "appreciation for support," all of which could go a long way to help save a career - and life - that are officially now believed to have jumped the shark.
Wisely, Sheen is playing it coy with regard to criticisms that he's manipulating the public's opinion through the platform provided by Twitter. But on the subject matter of his image, Sheen tweeted Wednesday: "I don't have much of a reputation left to ruin."
* CHARLIE SHEEN GOES ON RANT, SPINS OUT OF CONTROL
While all reports of Sheen's twitter account being handled by professional communication strategists are just rumors and in no way rooted in evidence, it certainly makes sense that Sheen would use Twitter to make a direct appeal to the public in hopes of securing a comeback at CBS - the goal of which, says Sheen, is to help countless staffers, writers, and producers retain their employment.
* OSCAR PRODUCERS FEARED CHARLIE SHEEN WOULD CRASH THE PARTY
So, is @CharlieSheen really 100% Charlie Sheen?

McLobster Rumor Smelled Fishy, Is all Wet

The latest McLobster rumor has been officially McQuashed. A viral rumor that McDonalds would soon offer its McLobster roll, available at a handful of East Coast outlets, nationwide, has been shot down.

The roll has been offered for a number of years at select outlets in New England and eastern Canada, but the company has no current plans to distribute the dish nationwide--despite rumors.

Other regional dishes offered by the fast-food chain are beer in some German outlets, McCrab at outlets in the Chesapeake Bay region, taro pie in Southeast Asia and McRice in various regions.

Is the McLobster coming to a Cleveland McDonalds near you?

Rumors are flying that McDonalds has launched a brand new product.
Chunks of 100% lobster meat (we hope) on a hot dog bun with lobster roll sauce (looks like a combination of tartar sauce and salad dressing) with some lettuce and diced celery for texture will make up this summer taste sensation.
I have been lucky enough to spend some time on Cape Cod during the summer months and know a real lobster roll costs much more than what you will find at your local McDonalds.
I contacted McDonalds via email requesting additional information about the menu item with no luck.  According to McDonalds Twitter page (@mcdonalds) the company has no plans to bring the McLobster to the US menu nationwide.
The McLobster is currently available only in Eastern Canada and parts of Maine.

McLobster Not Hitting McDonald's Nationwide

Twitter is abuzz with speculation that the McLobster might be hitting McDonald's nationwide.
But is it true?
Sadly, no. However, the product is certainly more than a legend -- it can be found occasionally among New England McDonald's locations.

The fast food giant felt it necessary to quell the misinformation on Twitter, but who knows, maybe after all the hype McDonald's might just get the idea to roll it out nationwide!

Here's the original McDonald's commercial, featuring the McLobster:

McLobster: Real or a hoax, hungry McDonald's customers ask

Is the McLobster a McFake? Is the McLobster a real sandwich? Or a hoax? See YouTube video of the McDonald's commercial!

Questions about McDonald’s “McLobster” are mounting. Is it real? Is it fake? Where can I get it? Would I want to get it?
Some blogs are insisting that the McLobster is a scam. Deanne Goodman of CarlsbadPatch.com writes:
“All day long, the McLobster has been trending on Twitter. Rumors of this sandwich got us interested. Carlsbad Patch e-mailed the McDonald's media team and asked, ‘Is McDonald's really testing the McLobster in some U.S. cities?’ A response came almost immediately asking where we got the information from and that it is false.

“So, the McLobster is McFake, at least in the U.S., according to McDonald's. However, one of our Twitter followers said she's served and ordered it in Maine for years. She believes it's a seasonal summer menu item. McDonald's tells us it's not available in Maine.”
However, a report in the Los Angeles Times appears to agree with Goodman’s Twitter follower who says she has been getting it in Maine for years. According to the LA Times, the McLobster comes and goes at restaurants in certain parts of Maine, as well as Canada. It is made of 100 percent lobster meat from Atlantic lobsters, and is served on a French roll. According to the report, the McLobster is about $6 Canadian.
A number of videos of the McLobster are available on YouTube, including a McDonald’s commercial for the sandwich.

Will McLobster to make its way to more McDonald's?

Is McLobster making its way to more McDonald's restaurants than just the lucky few in Eastern Canada and New England? Despite an Internet buzz spreading faster than you can say "pass the butter," a blog near San Diego is claiming that it has gotten word from the Golden Arches that the speculation is unfounded.
"The McLobster is McFake," surmised Deanne Goodman of the Carlsbad Patch blog.

And yet the unusual sandwich is very real in the Great White North and in certain parts of Maine where it has come and gone over the last few years. Made of 100% lobster meat from Atlantic lobsters, served on a french roll that looks like a hot dog bun, the McLobster sells for about $6 Canadian and can be ordered with fries and a drink for about $2 more.
"The disturbing mix of lobster and bread is smothered in white 'McLobster sauce', which is some combination of mayonnaise, tartar sauce, and possibly some salad dressing," Zach Tropf wrote in 2009 on the Gunaxin blog. "Shredded lettuce and bits of celery are also included," he added.
Although more Americans might not get their hands on a McLobster anytime soon, McDonald's has an interesting television commercial for the sandwich that can be seen after the jump.

The McLobster Sandwich and other McMenu Madness Around The World

As you might have read on our website (or otherwise heard), there’s this new phenomena spreading called the McGangBang. In doing research (or whatever you call searching the Internet for info) for the McGangBang, I came across something else called the McLobster. Originally, I thought it was a joke. McDonald’s isn’t exactly high brow enough to serve Lobster, now is it? I’d consider lobster to be a seafood delicacy. But I soon came to realize that it indeed was real and began shaking in my boots at the prospect of such a McFood.
To be fair, the McLobster is hardly new. It’s been around for several years, but unless you live in Eastern Canada or New England, you might not be aware of the crustaceous cousin of the Filet-o-Fish. It comes and goes, much like the McRib, and the maritime treat basically represents McDonald’s take on the venerable lobster roll. The disturbing mix of lobster and bread is smothered in white “McLobster sauce”, which is some combination of mayonnaise, tartar sauce, and possibly some salad dressing. Shredded lettuce and bits of celery are also included. Photo below by “are you gonna eat that?”
Actual McLobster
Actual McLobsterAnd in case you’re wondering, it is real lobster meat in the sandwich. It’s actually not priced all that differently from typical lobster rolls, so don’t be too worried. Reports indicate that it’s a decent representation of the sandwich, so maybe you should go out and try a McLobster next time you’re in New England or the Maritime Provinces of Canada. And if you’re French-Canadian, be sure to ask for the McHomard instead. What’s the worst that can happen? Actually, scratch that last part, you probably don’t want to think about it too much…

Here are a couple additional McLobster photos:

And if you need further proof of it’s existence, here’s a commercial…
Of course, this opens the door to a whole host of regional foods. I began to wonder, what else I was missing out on living in the D.C. area. Was there a McGrits? A McTofu? And really, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. What about worldwide? Beyond the Pulp Fiction famed Royale with Cheese, what other creations cater to the various cultures around the world. Here are some examples:

Also available in a lamb version. The McCurry is a rectangular shaped crust that is topped with a creamy sauce (made without eggs), and vegetables and/or meat. You might also find the Pizza McPuff, which replaces the cream sauce with a tomato-based sauce and is topped like a pizza.
